The Good Fight? New Orleans and the Lower Ninth Ward Posted on Apr 21 2008 at 5:42pm by Equally compelling a story as the rebuilding of Greensburg, Kansas or stories of environmental justice anywhere is the challenge facing the residents of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. They're receiving some great assistance and PR through Brad Pitt, Global Green, Bill Clinton and others. But hundreds, thousands, of homes - many of them historic - still lie open, uninhabitated, the residents unable to completely restore their properties or their lives. And yet there's an amazing transformation happening there, particularly in the Holy Cross Neighborhood along the river: the formation of the Center for Sustainable Engagement & Development, the Lower 9th Ward Village, and other community organizations, new since Katrina and Rita. Also, one of the largest green preservation efforts - ever - was just held there last month: "Historic Green". Go to Historic Green [www.historicgreen.org] or Help Holy Cross [www.helpholycross.org] for more on this amazing story.
