I've been watching many of these shows and doing plenty of my own research on eco-friendly living and I find it intriguing. However, every organization that is somehow involved in protecting natural resources and promoting self-sustainable living is also involved in the complete elimination of hunting for food. Granted, there are a lot of orgs out there who protect hunting for conservation purposes but fail on the idea of sustainable living. As of late, I have read only one article from Mother Earth News that features a family that hunts as part of their self sustained lifestyle.
Obviously in the circle of the young "green" crowd, a vast majority are against eating meat in the first place. But that just is not in the cards for me. I'm not convinced on the vegetarian lifestyle, nor do I have any desire to be persuaded into it. I have also read all of the hype on cattle farming and its effect on the environment, so no need to discuss that as I am not convinced on that topic either.
I also find that much of the outcry against hunting is purely emotion based, and grossly one-sided. No matter your thoughts on hunters, rednecks, hillbillies, sport/trophy hunters, I challenge someone to produce a documentary that addresses the truth behind hunting and self sustainable living. I am positive that there is no question that if you want to go organic, growing it and/or killing it yourself is the ultimate. So many shy away from the topic though nowadays.
In this documentary, I would like to see scientific fact from both sides of the argument, and a challenge to each organization's take on the matter. I would also like to see the exposure of politicians receiving donations from anti-hunting and pro-hunting groups to "ban" or "promote" hunting. Please do include the monies taken in by sales of licenses and excise taxes and what it is used for, and do the same for donations received by "full on" anti-hunting groups or the little backdoor anti-hunting tactics used by the NRDC, Sierra Club, or the trickery used by the HSUS to solicit donations. Please do include references to hunting all over the world, particularly Africa and its effect on the economy and survival of people, animals, and habitat.
I would like to see though both takes on the matter in one sitting, and very public. No holds barred. Who dares?
The biggest thing I have been reading into about "going green" or "self sustained" living is the change in mindset we all need to have. Seems to me that all the "defense councils" and "funds for the earth" or "defenders of this and that" want me to believe that their way is the only way. It wasn't that long ago that we as humans relied solely on ourselves to survive. Many people still do so, and do so just fine. Simply because they are unspoiled by technology, and far from lazy like us. It still blows my mind that this whole "green" thing is being mass-marketed as some new fangled invention when people have been living on this planet for freaking ever in similar housing that is being marketed as their new idea to save the planet. If people are serious about saving the planet, then people need to realize that all ideas are welcomed, even if it means killing a deer to feed a family over possibly purchasing tainted beef at the grocery store.
Anyway, off on a tangent. Please, someone with the abilities tackle this project and put this issue to bed for crying out loud. I don't pick on vegetarians unless they try to convert me. And god almighty in heaven above, no Al Gore's, no Michael Moore's, and no George Bush's. That horse has been beaten to death and served at your local McDonalds with a side of fries. I would like for this to actually mean something, and to include these people is pretty much a call to every nutjob on both sides to retaliate.
I'm accepting your ideas, please accept mine.
