I'm rather astounded by the lack of response to my first posts on MTR coal mining, so I decided to try again. Only this time, I've added a marker to the eco-map for reference and contact info. This is a crucial issue that faces us all, and I'm hoping rather desperately that more people will take an interest, start discussing this issue, and get involved. Sundance even did a show about it, as I've recently been informed, but I'll have to hunt it up in the archives because I missed it. Anyway, aside from the contact info I've put on my marker on the eco-map, you can also find out more information about this abomination that's going on right under our noses at this website... www.ilovemountains.org ...please, check it out, get involved, and do what you can to help put a stop to this madness. Watch the videos, if you want the full impact. It's devastating, and it has to stop NOW.-----Wind.

Here's a link to a page full of sites where you can sign petitions to demand an end to mountaintop removal, courtesy of a poster on another MTR thread:

        Wind,
I think I know what your talking about. I'm not too sure If I saw it here or on Bill Moyers, but what is being done and causing severe uninhabitable damage to the surrounding land is criminal to the residents and families that live there. Here's a link that is directly related to this issue:

If you've taken any day flights across this Beautiful Country, have you looked out the window to see what is happening below?

        Best regards,

Yes, the damage is absolutely horrifying. Not only is it devastating the communities downstream and at the foot of these mountains, but it also poses the severe threat of poisoning the entire source of water for the eastern half of the country with the toxic sludge waste by-products they have stored here and there in plastic lined ponds. Also, the rate of deforestation and desertification will increase exponentially, the longer this goes on, causing massive damage to our already overburdened atmosphere. The situation has gone far beyond critical, but this is one particular issue in which I think we can all get involved. This is something we can put a stop to, if we educate ourselves, get together, and take immediate action. Thanks for the link, btw. Please, keep spreading the word, everyone. Peace-----Wind.
