WOW! A big THANK YOU to the Sundance Channel and crew for the national exposure!
In episode 2, reference was made to BOND FALLS FLOWAGE in Ontonagon County, Michigan which has the Wild and Scenic Ontonagon River as a tributary.
The ongoing controversy is concerning the sale of thousands of acres of wilderness that the Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO/WPSR/Integrys) sold to Naterra Land for private development.
The plans include hundreds of exclusive, private docks on pristine, wild, undeveloped, shorelines.
We believe this will obstruct public access, adversely impact water quality and aesthetic beauty, and be detrimental to wildlife habitats and sensitive species and ecosystems.
The lands surround 6 UPPCO flowages that are licensed and governed for the public by the FERC or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and are to be managed in a manner "to enhance and protect the scenic, recreational and environmental values" for the express public benefit.
Thousands of concerned citizens across the country have joined in this FIGHT FOR THE FLOWAGES to save public access to these pristine wilderness areas.
This fight is grassroots, with passionate, dedicated "Yoopers" fighting big business, corporate greed and corrupt local government.
We are making a difference and if you would like more information and would like to help, please visit the Upper Peninsula Public Access Coalition (UPPAC) website at www.uppac.com .
Please sign our online petition to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission asking for an environmental impact study so we can know the cumulative effects of these development plans.
Thanks!
SAVE BOND! SAVE THE U.P. FLOWAGES! NO DOCKS!
"A developer is someone who cuts down all the trees, builds a bunch of houses, plants a rain garden, and then calls himself an environmentalist."
