I read an article in Newsweek several months ago(maybe it was Time) about how decisions are made regarding which movies are made and bought. I read it quickly before the doctor called. I was saddened to hear that it is driven by a strange formule. It was strange to me as a person on the viewing side of the lens. In general if I remember correctly the Hollywood people get the money from the first two weeks(or maybe one week) after it is released. Then the movie theater showing it gets the money after the first weeks of release. I hope I'm wrong in my recall of this. The article then went on to bring forth the fact that Hollywood aims for the interest of teen males who tend to want to get to the action driven movies ahead of everyone else for the first night realease. So the movies are directed at that segment of the population.
They do have a point there. As a mom of males I have noticed that they do love to go to the action movies on the first night of release. I have loaded them and their friends into the trusty old family van (when they were younger) to race off to the new release to get the tickets before everyone else. I've seen my share of male type films with mostly males in my family. Now my kids are old enough that I don't drive them anymore.
My experience there was a learning experience in the difference of males and females.
I must protest. I'm glad that the guys have their share of entertainment. I love my sons and husband and I have had fun sharing their type of movies with them. Still what about us ladies or those who prefer gentler movies?
Those formulas based on release time are nutty in my simple mind. What ever happened to simplicity? That which is simple can be quite profound after all. Well (Wink) it can confuse those who are too smart to listen to us poor little peons. Maybe (Wink) someone should reverse or rearrange the formula. Then some profound movies might bust through the top of the money vault scattering enough filthy lucre around for everyone to snatch and hyperventilate about.
I wish some knowledgeable people would post their half cent about this issue. Sheesh where is the ridiculous reality show, Ht Hm, with a ridiculous overpaid star or personality offering puffed up advice. Of course the purpose of the show would be to facilitate the making of a decent movie which would appeal to females or families. Those movies aren't always boring. Merly Streep has been in a lot of the ones that I like. With her they're definitely not boring. Honest Hey I'm an amateur and I'm not ashamed. (WINK) Just venting with kind humor as my intent.
Once upon a time I took a screenwriting class and wrote a script. Everyone liked it. One who was not a friend even said that it had the potential to be a great movie. I don't think that it fits into todays culture though. Well it would fit in okay but it isn't a rambo or flesh showing movie. I just don't have the connections or similarities with Hollywood types to push it through. When it is polished perhaps I will send it off to the appropriate agents. If folks in my culture knew how to do movies, I would share it with them and get it off the ground. ....OH Well, I like to learn about the process. I like to learn and be informed. I stop by this site every now and then to browse. I'm not sure that my politics match the politics of Hollywood. I go to church.
Some folks believe that Hollywood hates church attenders of particular faiths. I'm not going to say that about them but I am wary of entering an area where I perceive that I am not wanted. I try to get along with everyone regardless of their politics. I look at people first. Best Wishes.
