We are a high end green builder and just opened a factory north of Sacremento to make green homes, modular mansions and container homes etc. We have recieved alot of attention and land developers meet with us weekly. Thought someone might want to help us document our concept.
In the coming year we may be the larges green builder in the US.

Our CFO worked for Microsoft and managed 7 billion for Bill Gates. Thought there might be a good story there as well.

Hi,
I am a seasoned producer and interested in working on projects dealing with green issues. I used to produce for a very well known home building show which i hoped would build more sustainable conscious homes, but it really wasn't part of their format. I'd love to learn more about your pilot here in New York. Also, I am branching out to being on-air, if you are looking for anyone for that as well.
look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Green People in Reno...

My name is Bill Seaton... I used to be in the bamboo flooring importing business but now am finally in the Green Building AND Renwable Energy business where they BOTH come together in homes and commercial buildings. I am posting this because of your comment about creating a TV program. If you interested in finding out more about the wide variety of GREEN building and Renewable energy momentum thats already reached critical mass throughout Oregon and Washington contact Cylvia Hayes, the driving force behind her www.3estrategies.org in Bend, OR.

She deserve more much of the credit and well earned publicity for the wide range of Green Building and Renewable Energy work she has already accomplished in her 14+ years in Bend. Check her url out on the web and take a crew up there to at least do an interview on "Who's REALLY WHO" in the Green Biz here in the Northwest. You will see how much good one driven woman can accomplish while following her dreams....

I can not help you with the public relations you desire but I will stick my nose in and voice concern with your description..."high end" and "modular mansions". Seems to be antithetical to the whole notion of sustainability. Blind consumerism, affluenza, larger is better and keeping up with the Jones' is what got us into this mess. Are you truly replacing your clients Wood frame Mcmansion with a similar modular edifice or are you doing something to get them to reorient their value system?
Sorry I ramble but if you want to sell big modular houses you are welcome...but if you really want to make a difference your should reconsider your PR approach- No matter where you present it.
Best of luck with your endeavors.

Great comment and hopefully this make sence. When I or you hear "modular" we tend to think double wide trailer. The way we built it in the factory the home is 3-4 times stronger than a brand new home on the market and it's green. Our modular when complete sell as a stick build. and there is no trace of where the 7 or 8 units come together. 2 story 5 story not a problem.
We also reduce the utility bill up to 60%. we have a bid on a tahoe project 4 million we can do it for 3.25 million and job time went from 2 year to 8 month completion time.
also our roof are all steep and our eves have at least 18 overhang.

If it really bother some of you grab the kids and tour the factory.

Yes you are probably right that a hudge house is not green. Using materials on wasted space. In reality most people are fake green. That is where the market is.

The goal is to make green housing affordable and cost effective. Homes will be built no matter what. For us to attemp to force people to be 100% green would be business failure.

the greenest person I know is the bumb down the street. Recycled shopping cart. uses no electricity. Recycles trash. by the smell you know they don't waste water. I could go on but I guess I,m saying we are all fake green, there are some luxuries we Won't leave behind

I so agree with your viewpoint. I am starting a construction/ develpoement project in southern Florida. I will be designing and building solar/wind powered homes as close to 100% green and sustainable as possible. My main objective is for the homes to be the same price or cheaper than existing homes. They will be a managable size and homeowners will need to learn a new way of living and conserving for the house to work for them. I will completely change the way Florida homes are constructed. The home will also be hurricane and fire proof.I am now looking for the team of passionate and dedicated specialists in areas of green building.first and foremost i need a SOLAR specialist that can and will design a system to power a whole house .The other peoplle I need on the team are: green architect, general contractoe specializing in green construction, wall and roof systems, recycled water specialist, green HVAC person, natural concrete specialist, and environmentally passionate investors !!!I have a design for green neighborhoods unlike anything that exists now. My company is PHENIX HOME DESIGN, LLC. My name is Jenny Phenix. You can contact me at 561-252-3358. This project WILL happen and you may be the person I need. This project will change your life and the lives of thousands and I want the right team onboard with me. if you are interested in working with me call or eamil me @ jenphen1@comcast.net and tell me why you would like to be a part of this.I cant wait to hear from you, jenny

[b] Jenny please contact me at - aja7731@yahoo.com with the subject GREEN.
when you have come up with several designs. I have a piece of property that
I could build about 6 homes on. A subdivision next to me is building homes in the #25m to $450m range. They are having problems selling the upper ones. In this area I know of no one building green homes. These home are running from about 2000 to 3000 square feet.As you know in new orleans Brad Pittis working on this.

Though I really love the term "affluenza", my comment is that your position -- while understandable, emotionally -- is not an effective approach. No one likes to have their morality dictated to them, no one enjoys being shamed with "shoulds". Though the builder in question displays a somewhat cynical point of view when he says "that's where the market is," he's correct that for some portion of the market, waiting for them to buy into a different values system is a boondoggle.

So. Instead. Transforming the trophy home to consume less energy creates a reducting in energy consumption. There's value in that if the trophy home is, for some people, an inevitability. And the rings of influence that wave off of can be considerable. There will be some people who are inspired to go further -- either because they burn with a cynical judgment of the "fakeness" or because the fact of encountering someone who has taken the step to reduce their power consumption snaps them into understanding that it can be more than an idea. The homeowner, himself, in some cases, will come to understand himself better and, perhaps, experience some transformation.

There are instances in which half-steps are functionally suspect: "civil unions" instead of marriage provide a new basis for discrimination; biofuels that burn badly, put more GMOs and hormone-based pesticides into the air and water, cost more to make, are inefficient to process, etc., -- they aren't necessarily better than petroleum. But people making a significant step (and if the builder is correct about the energy savings in labor andin running the house, this is a significant step) provide a demand reduction that has an immediate and necessary impact. And a green-built house can lead to greener and greener living.

AND.

There isn't one right way to be green. My house is medium-sized (1320 sq ft): to some a shack, to some a mansion. I grow some of my own food and buy from local organic producers of meat and veggies, I recycle what can be recycled here -- most of the time. I also drive 14 miles each way to work in a Honda CR-V, run an air conditioner in the summer, use natural gas to heat my house, live in a house that the previous owners coated with vinyl siding, and buy non-green clothing on a regular basis (today I'm wearing jeans from LL Bean, underwear from KMart, a t-shirt that I ordered from a woman who embroiders my company's logo onto it, and a pair of plastic Crocs. Am I fake green? Or just as green as I am today, more green than five years ago, less green than I will be when my spouse and I complete our relocation and manifest our own -- much greener than this -- home?

Requiring perfection in the moment, or waiting for perfection in order to move forward is a gamble that can be lost on something as vague as a change in what's "hot". Heck, Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House! And Ronald Reagan took them off. Cars coming out of Detroit in the late 1970s and early 1980s were more fuel efficient than cars produced last year. So, let's not get immobilized on this end of the pendulum swing. That $3.25 mm mansion in Tahoe is going to burn a lot less energy -- YAHOO!

Hello
Being a Feng shuist and through my on going research, I have found that good Chi, IS and always was Eco Friendly Green. I am planning to move my family to upper CA. These container homes sound great; 1st question: Are these the same as the yurt homes i see advertised? We like the idea of controlling all the hardware/types of sinks, flooring, all the necessary modalities...yet it feels like the cost is soaring.
2nd Q: Any tips on where to get used household toilets/sinks/counter tops-we are looking for those diamonds in the ruff, that are of bio degradable materials/Earth friendly where we can***And i have MUCH research to do still i know, for when and how to build our Eco Green Home...

these are not yurt homes. They are made with SIP panels and can be built as a kit or modular. You decide. Each home is custom designed. There is much debate over the efficiency and carbon foot print of modular home and crane cost etc.

As a Bamboo flooring manufacture and importer we're very happy to hear you're focusing on the huge opportunities for GREEN Building and Renewable Energy. My company is Wellmade Floor Coverings, Interlatnial based near Portland, OR. We manufacture high quality Tongue & Groove, Engineered and STRAND Bamboo flooring and are looking for GREEN Builders who will consider Bamboo for flooring, Cabinets and possibly Vaneer for wall boards as "renewable/sustainable" building material options. We are well positioned to help Builders raise their LEED Point totals for all the right reasons. Anyone out there in the blogsphehre with similar interest? If so, we been manufacturing in Nanjing, China for almost 20 years and have Warehouses and our National Sales Center in Portland, OR toll free# 1-866-582-0848 for more information. Our Website is www.bamboofloorings.com.

We can quote 20 foot and 40 foot container pricing or pallet pricing and invite your interest and your business whether you're building Modular homes or conventional framed homes. I have been in the alternative resource generation arena for over 17years and have touted solar, wind and tidal-flow generation on one platform offshore for as long a time.
I was slightly ahead of my time. In the last 5yrs i have been in the real estate market
and have teamed up with Rapiid Modular inc a Miami based corp. We will start building intire subdivisions of low cost modulars with the co-generation built-in Thus the sustainable
lowcost home of the future one with little or no electric bill at all.

That's me everyone, I have been designing and building hospital and restaurant Interiors for quite some time now, i now offer Recycled content Avonite countertops...it's 40% content SCS certified,I'm also interested in green material cabinetry that is ready to install if someone could send me a reply to refresh@knology.net the reason i'm sharing this is because i just stumbled into the Green build design as if it was going to be some sort of phase and
by all means this will never be a phase in my life anymore, someday we wont have to say green it will be the "Norm". as i researched countless peices of literature in my industry i became someone who wants to make a difference, i have to admit my motives weren't pure, but now I just want to help out. therfore, if someone needs cabinets and countertops,by the way,You don't have to buy them from me either, i would just like to give you some info and ammo for the contractor before you purchase your new kitchen. i'm here in St. Petersburg, florida and yes i can ship to anywhere in the world but now you have a consultant in your back pocket. maybe even we can do restaurants or the healthcare industry where healthy food is to be consumed and health restored in healthcare, alot of countertoppers tell customers they offer green materials for counters and offer Granite because it's natural Stone...well that's removed from the earth, slabs at a time and gone forever, Thats why i ship all over trying to make sure the green cabinetry industry has third party certification so we don't get misunderstood...just my thoughts, i'm willing to help and i'm a new Green contractor,it's a pleasure to meet you all, Gene Mcdonald

Hi! Yes I'ld like your info on green countertops. Also, did anyone catch the show on Sumdance, "Gimme Green"? It was about America's obsession with their lawns? Quite good, I'ld just like to see the background stuff they featured in their documentary, the stuff about the companies that offered viable solutions. You'ld think they'ld have it on their website.

Hi Rick,
Its great to see a green company have such success. My question is: Do you know if the green building can be applied to a small business structure? I am planning on starting my own business, a small cafe and would like to implement as much green technology as possible.
Thanks

Green can be applies to small Commercial.
I came across a company called "Global Building Systems." Its a steel stud product with a 5" to 6" foam resessed into the steel stud 3 inches. They cut the foam so you can have a stucco finish or a wood sidding look. Aslo the roof is made of foam and is cut to look like tile or whatevert you want with a 275 MPH wind rating. the roof is seemless too. I saw the sample product and think it worth a look. Its a paneled system. theyer claim it in 4 days your home or commercial building will be dryed in with the roof on and stucco finish. It lacks windows, plumbling elec. drywall, hvac etc.

News from the front. Waterless urinals cost the same up front, work great and save water and cost over time. Myth: leaving fluorescent lights on all day is more efficient than turning them on and off. So long as the cycle time is around 15 minutes or more there will be no appreciable difference in ballast life.
Bamboo is a great material; however on one big ten university project the type that was used as a flooring material had to be removed when bugs emerged from the material. Linoleum is also a great material but how was it produced and how far was it shipped?

As an architect, design studio instructor and LEED ap I have worked on many green projects and many not green projects. If you would like to discuss your plans or ideas contact me and my team at sustainableD "at" gmail.com.

Consider a product in the category of a SIP. Developed some time ago, the company nearly went out of operation. The current CEO has been there ~ a year. Application has been made to Certify as GREEN in California > http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/080501/aqth073.html?.v=47
I have a couple PDF files should you have an interest. Please let me know.
I believe the company site will be updated by June. > http://leepinc.com
They built a 2 story office building in Houston, TX and sized its cooling using traditional calculations - "needed two AC units" - I'm told the 2nd unit has NEVER BEEN TURNED ON !
Full disclosure: yes, I own shares in this penny stock.
I believe in the product, it's enormous benefits, and the new management.
Good Luck,
Tim

Your concept sounds great, what a cool idea! I founded a company I thought you may be interested in knowing about. Sustainabuilt specializes in Cabinetry and furnishings built from recycled, renewable and sustainable materials. All products are constructed with a focus on sustainability and healthy indoor air quality. All the finishes are non-toxic or 100% natural. You can visit my website for more information www.sustainabuilt.com. Might be a great fit to incorporate these two eco minded concepts together.

• Auburn Home Show previews unique barn style Green Prefab Manufactured Home by Nichoel Farris of American Home Sales in Auburn California Posted on Apr 6 2008 at 5:01pm by ecohomes
The 'Sonoma House' is a gorgeous, barn-style, 1200sqft granny home with a modern interior that is healthier, more energy efficient, and better for the environement! Additional environmental products featured with the home are: reclaimed local wood installed for floors, PV solar system, rainwater catchment system, built in recycling system, ICF foundation forms, smart vents, cool metal roof (as seen in example photo), lime plaster, and more! In 2002, Nichoel Farris founded American Home Sales, a local prefab home design company specializing in factory built custom homes and cottages. Because of the lack of affordable green building options available to the average family, she worked with the EPA's Energy Star New Homes program to design and develop the first Green Manufactured Model Home. The Sonoma House will be open daily for tour at the Spring Auburn Home Show. May 16- - May 18 For more info or to tour the other Green Model Homes on display: American Home Sales 530.885.4555. I am facinated with the green building industry. I have a horticulture degree and also am an RN. I have been trying to find someone interested in my background who will give me the opportunity to learn and grow . I am planning on becoming certified in green roof installation and was looking at LEEP certification. The local chapter, in MD, said you need building background to understand the classes. Anyway, I would consider it a blessing if I were given the opportunity. It seems when you get to a "certain" age, there is no interest.Help!
