I'm a new fan, and think the show is great. I read some of the discussion boards, website, etc., and can't find out the answer to this: Is the show still going on? Is there a Season 4 coming? I saw that the original air dates for Season 3 was July 2006. Can we hope for a Season 4 this July?

    Thanks!

I haven't been able to find that out myself.... but the way this season is going seems to be leading to another one!

    • Season 4 Is Not Yet Planned Posted on Mar 25 2007 at 1:17pm by brettearle
Because I am (I confess) obsessed with "Slings & Arrows" (I believe that it is the best satire that I have ever seen on TV), I looked into the possibility of a season 4.

It does not look likely, though possible. The "Drowsy Chaperone" is keeping Martin and McKellar quite busy and, too, amid the gleam of Broadway and beyond.

Paul Gross (Jeffrey Tennant) has remarked, recently, that there has been talk of a season 4--but it's just darn hard to get scehdules & contracts co-ordinated. Some of the characters that we saw in Season 1 and Season 2 were not in Season 3--and I suspect it was not simply because of epsiode content.

        hi,

I adore the show as well. I'm just curious if most of the fans are actors themselves or just have a love of theatre and are theatre-goers.

do you know if season 3 is available on dvd?

I just discovered the show halfway through the season. Never heard of it until then. I was kind of depressed when the finale seemed so obviously... you know... final. It just felt like that was the perfect ending for a series, even if I hadn't seen the entire thing. It felt complete. Guess I'll have to be happy with the box sets.

Someone asked if the viewers were actors or just fans of theater. Betcha there are both. Anyone who isn't a fan would find it too weird, I think. As for me, I'm not a professional actor, but I was very involved in theater in high school and college, and I did community theater in Seattle. It was the happiest time of my life, and this show brings back a lot of the emotions. There's a certain kind of happy chaos that I think only theater people perceive and enjoy, and Slings and Arrows is loaded with it.

actually, im a huge fan of the show, and wouldn’t call myself a theatre goer of theatre fan. i barely know Shakespeare either. but i don’t think it matters that much. to me, the show is about so many other things, ambition, creativity, the everyday effort to balance the creative and the commercial, its about relationship, life and death and dealing with inner demons... i can go on and on.

and as for the 3rd season being the weakest, i find it to be the opposite. i was brought to tears so many times (both laughter and sadness), i thought it was actually the deepest and roundest. i loved the conclusion and though it saddens me that there will be no future seasons i feel it was concluded beautifully and in such rare form in television today. and though the first viewing made me sad of how its ended in terms of the theatre's situation, the second viewing made me realize that this was a necessity for all characters involved to put the past behind them and continue with their lives. it was simply a beautiful closure of things.

It is just about to come out on DVD. Check on the net or with sundance directly. I know on amazon it is to come out in July sometime. Can't wait.

Answer to question one, yes. I was very involved in the theater in high school (even if it was small roles -- no such thing as small roles only small actors!). Also am involved in playwriting, wouldn't mind getting involved in theater again someday, hopefully directing. Stage, not screen. :)

On Sundance's home page--it states the "third and final season"--regrettably. Although some of the episodes this year did not live up to the general quality of the first two seasons, the final episode was brilliant, and while I would love the series to go on forever, the conclusion was an appropriate one for the Burbage Players. I can't help but wonder, though, what the crew could do with "Taming of the Shrew" or "Midsummer Night's Dream" for their tale-within-a-tale scenario. All good things must come to an end--and we'll always have our tapes.

I agree that the third season had its weak points, but I must say that this is still by far the best series that has been on television in many years; perhaps ever. The finale brought tears to my eyes and was brilliant.
For those who hope for a third season; Well, I would like to see more as well, but I think this was so well rounded from beginning to end that it may not be possible to continue. Let's be happy that such a great series was given to us and let us continue to enjoy it on DVD,
To all who were involed in its being: Thank you. I hope to see other wonderful works by all of you. You are a credit to your profession.

I have been a major fan of Slings & Arrows since season one--and I agree that the concluding episode was a masterpiece of great writing, direction and performance. The actor's final line as the door closed on his performance--and his life--"Any Notes?"-- is so great I know many who would consider it a wonderful epitaph on the tombstone of a performer or teacher. While it would be wonderful to watch the continued adventures of Jeffrey & Company starting a new little group in Montreal, it would seem anticlimactic to open a new chapter. The series was a three-season gem I feel privileged to have experienced, and I'm sure the DVD will be released in a few months to complete the collection.

My feeling is that the series is written out for the moment, but after a break of a year or so it might be fun to follow Geoffrey and Ellen to Montreal. There'd need to be a legitimate reason to revive Oliver, I think. It would be wrong to put this wonderful series on a treadmill. If Susan Coyne and Co. find real reasons to write about these people again, then fine. Right now what might be loveliest, frankly, would be the company, or as much of it as can be kept together, doing a complete King Lear with William Hutt in the lead. All I could think, as I watched the last episode, is God, how I love these people! I hope Sundance will seek and find other Canadian material of such quality, if any exists.

Does anyone know if the music from the series will be made available? It would be great to have them on CD or be able to download them.

It doesn't appear that there will be a season four. I think the only thing that could be done in the future would be some type of spin off from the original. I was so sad to see this series come to an end as I felt as if I knew the characters so well. It was great to see such good television, and I hope the actors and writers go on to create more fabulous things.

    • No season 4 - Season 3 was the last.... Posted on Apr 1 2007 at 5:04pm by dilarababy
I just read in the Toronto Sun that there will be no Season 4, but that there may be a possible spin off with Darren's character.....

      I am devasted!

I know most people may disagree, but I didn't feel the last episode really tied up all the loose ends properly

We love Slings & Arrows and hope to see a Season 4. I feel the characters are not ready for a grand finale. The fans need more Slings & Arrows!

Just keep the interest alive. Make noise. Keep the conversation going. Call and write about it. Alas, it was the most interesting show I ever watched. Such good characters and honored plots.

I hope so! I have been a fan from the start. I think they should do a production of Henry V this time. That was the first shakespeare play I ever saw at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland years ago. (dare I say decades).

Season 4 is going to be such a hoot with the competition between Jefferys new theater company and the Rose. They already have it set up for a great season filled with the stuff that makes good drama...conflict. :)

      Call the understudy... :)

So, does this mean there is going to be a season 4? I surely hope so. The third season was truly magnificent. I would hate to see this series end prematurely and I do think there are more stories to tell. I would love to see Richard III or Henry the IV.

Friends, Romans -- er, Canadians -- and countrymen, lend me your ears! I can only hope we're here to praise "S&A," not bury it. But, hey; the fact that Sundance has a "Season 4" link must mean... er, um... that there are plans for a Season 4, maybe? You Sundancers can at least post SOMETHING to excite us, or break it to us gently -- that, alas, poor Yorik (and Jeffrey, Richard, et al), we knew them well...

The post that sparked my interest was from katerirosehawk on 6/16/07. In that post, there was mention of a 4th season plot in the works. It would be nice if katerirosehawk saw these follow ups and responded.

I received the following response today to an e-mail I sent to Rhombus Media (the production company for Slings and Arrows):

At the moment I am not certain if there will be a fourth season. There has certainly been a great deal of fan support for the idea, it is just a matter of assembling the writing team again.

Unfortunately at the moment the answer is no, however if it does come together we will do a press release. Keep your ear to the ground and thanks for the support!

          Best wishes,

          Jo King

So, it appears that there is no season 4 in the works for now.

It's a great series, and I'm sure many of you wish they had done 5 years before concluding it. If the creators believe the overall integrity of the production is best preserved by doing the three seasons, we'll have to respect their judgment. Yes, it is available on DVD for sale from the well-known online sources and also for rental.

I've worked on both the artistic and management side (but not in theatre) and was amazed to find that the writers had included in the story lines so many of the real issues that confront these organizations. It certainly sounded like many of the discussions from an arts administration course!

If you visit the NPR website, you'll find an interview with Paul Gross and Martha Burns that was taped in July 2007. The principals are all working on other productions, and you may be able to find info about current appearances on the web.

Again, it's a fabulous series, and I'm happy it's available for broadcast in the U.S.
