It is astonishing to read the commentary about this young woman's apparent substance dependance disorder referred to as a personality or maturity problem.
I am very troubled that the teachers of this so-called "finishing school", if not the series's producers, did not intervene publicly in what is CLEARLY an acute health condition suffered by one of the participants.
There is no doubt that Louise's behavior is disastrous when she uses alcohol---she acknowledges this herself at one point, stating sadly that "one drink and it's all over" as far as her conduct is concerned. She is only too aware that something is wrong with her----she genuinely wants help of some sort to prevent her life being ruined. A finishing school/reality show is not the help she needs, but she doesn't apparently know what else to do. She, as well as the above commentator, believes she needs to learn 'better manners', not that she has a neurologically-based intolerance for alcohol. This thinking, or confusion or ignorance, is expected in an individual who has the disorder that Louise has; it's indefensible on the part of the school's instructors and the series's producers.
I have the same condition; I was born with physical intolerance for alcohol at least as acute as Louise's. I was taken to an inpatient detox facility, followed by month-long inpatient addiction treatment center, at the age of (barely) 20. I was also a former prep-school student with the best grades in Latin class, a dancer and athlete, a fashion model and a (usually) well-mannered upper-middle class girl. By the time I made it to detox, I had liver disease. Social graces, strength of will, consideration or compassion for others made no difference to the physical disorder I have. I'm living proof that you don't have to be degraded by and die of alcoholism--that detox experience was over 22 years ago as I write this. I was so disturbed by witnessing the irresponsible behavior of the instructors on this series that I looked up Louise's name to see if anything has been done to get her medical help.
And I'm glad to see I am not the only one who has. I hope to see a positive outcome to this story, someday.
