I was very moved by the documentary, in particular by Cheri Honkala and her march into NYC for the Republican Ntl. Convention with the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign. As I do my 9-5 and and consumed with keeping my head above water economically, people with "less to lose" commit profound acts of courage. But we all have SO MUCH TO LOSE. There is much about this documentary to keep in mind (the state and local police videotaping protestors, the sterile oversimplifications of the conservative ideology spoken in the red, white and blue unreal world of the convention hall) when watching the next documentary coming up on Sundance about the power of language (Nazi Germany).

      jhhodson,

thank you for your thoughtful comments about our film. Our aim was to make people think about poverty as an issue that impacts all of society (not just those whose material lives are directly affected). We also wanted to force a debate over what we saw as a core difference between the ideologies of the two parties, namely their approach to alleviating poverty. It seems that other social issues like "gay marriage," "flag burning," "abortion rights" etc, take precedence in people's minds when trying to differentiate between republicans and democrats, but for us the issue of how best to deal with the growing number of impoverished people in the US is THE social issue most demanding our attention and most defining in terms of party ideology. It warms our heart that you were able to engage with the film the way you did.

Thank you again for your comments and thanks for watching. Please spread the word :) and let people know that the film is available on netflix as well as for purchase at Rumur.com.

      cheers,

      keefe
