First, Heidi, I wanted to commend you for an extraordinary documentary. It literally brought me out of the seat in my living room aghast at what I was watching and hearing. I don't remember breathing in for most of it and in fact recall clenching my teeth and sucking in air at the horror of the information you presented. I had been struggling with a need to commemorate the anniversary in some way other than feeling the sorrow that I did. I wanted somehow to feel like as a nation we were drawing together once again as we did that day and for months and months after to strengthen our resolve never to let this happen again. I wanted to feel our world stop and appreciate the sacrifice made by all involved and promise to be better people tomorrow and from here on to carry on for those who can not.

Instead, what I feel now is a blinding rage, a humiliation and disgust that we as a nation could treat the thousands of people who did what few could have done the way that we have. I will never forget this story and I want to know what I can do to make sure everyone sees this film. I plan to e-mail all of my friends, families and colleagues and encourage them to find any means possible to view this film. I plan to write senators, state representatives and congressmen to demand an investigation but most importantly to demand these people be taken care of. Not left to die under mountains of bills, bureaucracy and lies.

I encourage anyone who reads my message to do whatever you can to spread the word about this information. Knowledge is Power and there IS Safety in Numbers-the more people who speak out regarding this, the more attention will be brought to it.

If 99% of Hollywood can back Bono and the One Campaign, there are certainly plenty who would consider supporting a campaign to help support the people who worked tirelessly to heal this wound. To bring closure to thousands of families. To bring New York back to it's feet. We owe them everything for the work they did in putting the dead to rest. They handled what few humans should ever be asked to handle.

I believe - Sundance and CBS News Productions are doing their best to get the word out and the film out. I am pleased to see that this film has not only educated but inspired people to action - a documentary filmmaker couldn't ask for more.

      Best,

      Heidi

Heidi what specifically can we do to help these people get the aid that they need besides spreading the word about your film to friends and family? Alot of people can watch your film and get angry which I know that I certainly was but we don't know exactly what to do about it? Please help...Are there organizations out there that are trying to help the workers or Senators and Congressmen that we can write to and ask for aid....What can be done!? I agree with Shannon all the way!!! I'm on board Shannon if you're reading this and want my help!!!!

        • What can we do? Posted on Sep 17 2006 at 12:19pm by dfrost77
Please tell me what I can do now that I have been so moved by this piece. This is a disgrace and an outrage. Is there any way I can be of service to these people in need? Is there a website to contact them directly or to send support? I cannot just sit with this anger, I need to take action. They need our help now. Just let us know what to do.

Thank you for your work, D.J.

          Heidi,

Are you aware of the "Neediest 911 Medical campaign"; a spin-off of the NYTimes Neediest Cases organization? Are these organizations making a real difference and is the money really getting into the hands of those people who need it most? George Soros donated $1MM through his foundation Open Society Institute, along with the Ford Foundation, and others. just curious if the $$$ is really going to the people?

Did you tape this or any of the other Sundance Channel documentaries on 9/11? I would like a copy. Thanks for your time. Jason Porta.
