I appreciate that you acknowlege my "boldness". Don't you think it is surreal that expressing an opinion in America that may not be in accord with the "politically correct" is anathema? The zietgiest when I was growing up was that America was the land of opportunity. America is so limited now. I've recently been reading about Britain under George II, great and horrifying debauchery amoung the ruling classes even according to the aethetic of the time, and unimaginable even to the current American mind. But this was a time of great changes both in terms of the conforamrtion of the world, but also in terms of social discourse. Both by the same players. I find this curous in the extreme. As an American I find their behavior shocking, but Britain moved the world forward as consequence ot this internal and subtle debate. My suspicion is that the same is happenng in Africa, and in a strange way this debauch may be hopeful. Britain experienced it's greatest power during this peiod, I find this confusing. Africa is confusing in the same way. I hope that you still respond to me even knowing that I have nothing substantial to offer you.

oye,
i was highly impressesd by the fact that you pointed out the devaluation of the artist in Condo, needless to say not many people would come out and be bold enough to say it. i wasnt involved with the project,i'm just another faceless voice in the wilderness i must say.there's a rich culture in Africa that still has to be conquered besides AIDS andd blood diamonds, and my story Legend of the Stolen Guitar is one that's gonna send a culture shock to that segment of the Afro-American community that refuses to identify with their roots. the people that have been blessed to read the script before i started shopping it are already calling me Africa's answer to Spielberg.

Good for you Austilo Handriade. I still don't have any money for you but hopefully others do. I can not quite understand why you have had such a strong reaction to my message. Were you involved with Condo Painting? If so in what capcity? Are you offended by my sentiments regarding the film, or in accord with them? Or are you just another viewer who had a reaction, if so what was your reaction? My familiarity with South African TV and cinema is non-existent. I suspect I am not unusual in this as far as Americans go--not so much because of lack of interest but because of lack of access. I can't assure however you that I would be interested even if the material was accessible. If one is Japanese the world accepts your contempt for conquered cultures, if you're American the zeitgeist states that you should engage in an endless pretzle logic. Americans at large are now programed to find other cultures we have conquered culturally and spiritrually superior to our own. How charming, how politically correct, and how so fundamentally empty. Superiors win because of their superiority not because of some unwholsome accident. The failure to understand this is what relegates one to obscurity. So tell me what is in interest in what I wrote?

My name is Austilo Handriade. I'm a veteran Entertainment Journalist from Zimbabwe I've covered sports and music from South Africa, London to Hollywood with a popular column in DRUM Magazine of South Africa, the biggest publication on the continent. I was a producer/anchor for MABC TV in Harare, a graduate of the Christian Communications College of Southern Africa, and also did analysis for ZTV at Africa's premiere sports show, The All-Africa Games of 1995. My script, LEGEND OF THE STOLEN GUITAR is already creating a buzz amongst my colleagues at the financial institution in Los Angele where I work ,and they are calling me Africa's answer to Spielberg.

First I don't have any real money. Second if you're looking for money you should probably identify yourself. Some are worthy, some are not.

Great take I must say. How do i submit my script? I have a gem of a story thats going to cause a huge rapture once turned into a motion picture. I have already secured 80% of the funding and I'm looking for an investor to bring in the other 20%.

I must say that I felt very differently. I posted on this earlier but in entirely the wrong place. To be susinct--I felt sorry for the artist. The documentarist appeared to me to be so self absorbed and intent on being "edgy" that the artist was lost in the mix. This is an interesting and odd artist whose thesis is overwhelmed by the documentarist's autistic indulgences-the documentarist manages to make the artist mariginal and devalued while superficially lauding him. In the end I found it dull and annoying. But please feel free to set me straight.

I just watched this film sunday afternoon, I loved it.
It was fascinating to watch the transition of the painting take place over time.
Who was the older gentleman that Condo made the plunger painting with in the film? His last name was Kansas.
Thanks
Ken
