Have general suggestions, comments or questions about the site or channel? Talk about it in this board. Whether it's about our programming, our site design, or our features, feel free to discuss it in this board.

NOTE: PLEASE CREATE A NEW TOPIC IF YOU HAVE A NEW QUESTION. This topic has gotten too large at this point, so will be closed to new posts.

The most important way to improve your site is to know when the day and date start. It is at 12 midnight not 6am in the morning.

It is misleading to see a movie showing on,say, Wed. May 17th, 4am when it is actually Thursday morning May 18th, 4am.

For a newcomer it can be confusing until one learns your system. But still, why not run the true time of a day/date 12 midnight to 11:59 midnight. ???

        Thanks for your comments.

There are two considerations for why we schedule our "days" the way we do. One reason we don't use midnight as the cutoff time for a new day is time zones. If we changed the day at midnight or even 2AM or 3AM in the Eastern time zone, much of the western half of the country would be looking for any film advertised at midnight on the wrong day (depending on what feed they were viewing). So we needed to choose a switchover time after 3AM to avoid this confusion and maintain consistency in our advertising messages across the country.

Another reason for our system is that a midnight switchover would confuse viewers even in the correct time zone. For example, if we advertised Midnight Snack for "Saturday at Midnight", many would likely tune in on Saturday night, not Friday night, when it's actually on. The new "day" in this case is just a technical distinction; it's not really recognized by most people in practice. (Think about the last time you were out late - would you say you were out "Saturday morning at midnight" or "Friday night at midnight"?)

6AM then makes the most sense since it basically coincides with a new morning. We do realize it may be confusing at first, but it is actually less confusing than switching the day at midnight.

          Admin:

Thanks so much for your reply.

I understand your position and agree with your "out late" example.

As with most things - a little time and practice - I've learned the schedule and hope not to wrongly set my timers in the future.

Thanks again for your help and the forum.

          Regards,

          Euen

Whoopsidoodle, If you could tell me how or delete the early versions of my posting that would be great. I marveled at the ease with which I could fix little edits, and then was horrified to find that I had in fact created a number of the same posting. Yikes....would love your help on this. Sorry about that. It was my first time!

Please put back the monthly printable schedule. Having to check the daily schedule is a pain. You must lose a lot of viewers by removing important content like that. I know I'll be watching less because it'll take too long to have to scroll through the schedule day by day by day by day by day by day by day......

I can't find the new topic button:

I watched Isabella Rossellini on the Charlie Rose Show and want to watch her film "My Dad Is 100 Years Old" but you schedule it one time opposite the season close of LOST (PST)? Why no repeats? Are you clueless?

Just watched Kath and Kim for the first time. I immediately put it on season pass. Thank you for this great little gem!

I enjoy many of your films and documentaries, but I subscribe to Showtime to get Sundance for the primary purpose of viewing your foreign films. I'll bet I'm not the only subscriber in this category.

I see you have a new block section. I wrote in about a month ago that it would be wonderful to have a section on your website listing the current month's foreign films. Someone did write back and told me that it wasn't being considered at this time. However, I didn't consider that a true response. Was my suggestion passed on?

PLEASE, there is no way to search your site for current foreign films, only individual titles. Please consider placing a listing under the "blocks" category on the left side of your website. It would such an easy thing for your website writers to do.

Thank you! A real response would be appreciated this time. ~Laura Tattoo, Astoria, Oregon
      • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 9 2006 at 10:45am by Administrator
The "blocks" section of our web site corresponds to sets or series of films being advertised under one particular banner on the channel - it makes it easier to find those films on our web site and vice versa.

However, we are always thinking about ways of better organizing our films as a whole to make them easier to navigate. Currently, if you look at our video preview section, you will see that each film is "tagged" at the bottom with different categories. Clicking one of these categories will bring up all the video clips in that category in the menu on the right. This is something we are doing for all video previews and we are considering ways that we can extend this functionality and potentially apply it to other areas of the site. All we can say is watch for future developments as we continue to work to improve our site.

Why was the quality so poor when you showed the movie "FM" a few months back? Reason I ask is because I just bought a VHS copy new and sealed on Overstock.com for $1.00. Maybe you should procure a copy for your library.
      • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 9 2006 at 10:35am by Administrator
We always strive to procure the best quality transfers available to us. However, we are legally bound to show what is provided to us by the distributor of the film and sanctioned by the copyright holder for television distribution. In certain cases, this may mean the transfer available to us is different than what you might find in a video store (often, it will actually be better). It's also possible that your cable or satellite feed may be affecting signal quality.

Kindly be advised, there is a major error in your scheule listings, related to date and time after midnight. Common sense would dictate, listings after midnight refers to the next day and date. However; reviewing the schedule of single film listing, is where the schedule listing error exist(not the daily click date calendar). Example: click on film Little Death, the schedule day and date is wrong. Sundance listing Wed. 06-07 is incorrect! My Direct TV(and most likely cable)schedule list the film correctly at Thru. 06-08 in the AM. I discovered this major viewing schedule mistake, when attempting to find the post 06-03 viewing date for Mysterious Skin. The Sundance listing on the single film webpage synopsis is Thru. 06-08(which is wrong). Direct TV and cable schedule listing of Fri. 060-09 would be correct. Please review the Sundance single film synopsis dates listed after midnight and reconcile the AM times with the proper day and date. Sincerely yours; Barry-Sherlock

PLEASE put a note on the schedule as to what time zone is listed.
      • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 14 2006 at 3:48pm by Administrator
We have put thought into ways to improve the ease of selecting time zones. Though we have not yet decided upon (much less constructed) an alternative, I feel that I can assure you that we will make a valid attempt to ease the whole process, and that this, among other changes, will be available soon.

How can one claim to respect films while plastering a logo over the face of them? Also, when is Sundance going widescreen?

Respect is the correct word. No respect for the viewer.

We just love trying to read subtitles through the Sundance logo. I think everyone knows what channel their watching without having to be reminded constantly,

Next we'll probably get advertizing of what's coming up next like other cable stations do. Like we dont have on screen guides...Give us a break and a little respect for the creators of the film.

I cant wait for the day when this advertizing is ruled copyright infringement.

It's in discussion among the people who be.

I am so mad about that, it was about war crimes alegedly commited by the bush administration and 9-11, there was a lot of interesting material, I think they should leave it on and not try to Censor......!!!
        • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 13 2006 at 10:44am by Administrator
Unfortunately, UNCONSTITUTIONAL is no longer available to us for broadcast. It was not censored, and we will continue to carry this type of programming on our channel as it becomes available.

I think that the schedule would be easier to use if the listings made use of midnite as the change time from one date to the next.... For example, it is confusing to call something shown at 2AM as belonging to the previous day.

My husband and I watched Al Franken faithfully and wonder if he'll be back on Sundance. With the article in today's paper, with Robert Redford calling for the Democrats to stand up for what's right, it is imperative we have people like Franken on the air. So few opportunities exist to hear the truth, we need more of that to make informed decisions.

My name is Adam. I am currently in love with Slings & Arrows. I would like to know if there is some kind of plan for re-running the second season soon. Also, with the release of the 1st season of DVD, would there be a possibility of a Slings & Arrows marathon?

Have no fear! (or in the case of Asia Extreme, maybe you should have fear), Sundance Channel will continue to air our current Asia Extreme flicks as well as add in some new ones down the line.

Stay tuned to www.sundancechannel.com/asiaextreme [www.sundancechannel.com] for more details as they arrive.

        Thanks!

Let us know when you're thinking of putting Monkey Dust back on the air? And aside from that, there is no real 'feedback' thing on this site. I would love it if there was a dedicated address for this sort of thing, so if you had a question you could get a reply to it. It smacks of laziness and a feeling that as a channel you seem only to be paying lip service to providing a proper feedback route. A posting board just seems very impersonable, and there is no guarantee of getting a reply back, so even if I had any further pressing questions, such as 'Why, if you have procurred all 18 episodes of Monkey Dust, have you only shown 6 and then stopped?' (You might be sensing a thread to my diatribe). Put out a proper email address that consumers/viewers/customers/more sophisticated and possibly pretentious viewers of discerning taste would be able to write to you about issues they genuinely require/desire answers to. Even if you were to reply with 'Um, we're not sure if we're ever going to air it due to a complete lack of interest', at least I'd know rather than be in this agonising state of not-knowing and feeling oh-so-empty and lacking in meaning without my Monkey Dust fix ;) And tragic as it is to admit, I hold a BA and an MA so I am aware of just how needy and pathetic this posting sounds, but Monkey Dust is seriously one of the most hysterical and original and sharp-eyed programmes ever made. I was so pleased to hear when you originally decided to air it, as an ex-patriate Englander now residing over in Tampa, and now the first six episodes have been and gone I am gasping for more. The third season, in particular, is astounding.

Keep up the otherwise excellent work!

        Hello,

We at the Sundance Channel Web Team have decided to implement discussions in place of our previously existing feedback page. We have implemented this change for the following reasons:

Volume - The volume of feedback being received was becoming staggering, and many of the same questions were being asked by numerous viewers. We felt that answering these questions in a public forum would allow a way for the public to view records of the questions and answers, and hopefully answer they're questions through prior responses.

Public Records - Responding to feedback emails in a public forum allows the public to view the records of our previous correspondences. This provides a means by which the general populous can help themselves.

Visibility - This pertains to both visibility of YOU, and visibility of US. Yes, we are really here. With only a direct feedback email address, one cannot be sure if your email has been received/read or not. Just as there are no guarantees about receiving a reply on the discussion board (we do our best to answer everything we can, some things we just don't have answers to.) there were also no guarantees with our old system either.

However, with a public forum, the users are at least sure that the forums ARE monitored. They can see us through the responses others have gotten. Also, If for any reason we are unable to answer a question (or are unable to answer in a timely fashion) YOU are still visible, as is your question, to other members of the forum who may be able to help out (and we encourage them to do so if they are able to).

Back up Plan - In cases of absolute necessity, users can always email feedback@sundancechannel.com, however, we encourage our users to first seek answers on our discussion boards from either us, your peers, or both. We realize that this email address is no longer listed on our site, and are considering adding it again in addition to the feedback forums.

Speedier Service - While the boards are patrolled semi-daily, the feedback mailbox is patrolled semi-weekly. Though we patrol the discussions almost daily, none of us are a truly omnificent force. We may need some time to look things up or ask for information that has not been provided to us. Basically, just be patient, we want to make sure any information we do reply with is accurate.

        As for Monkey Dust:

The second season of Monkey Dust, premieres on Sundance Channel on Saturday, August 12 at 9:00pm e/p, with new episodes premiering every Saturday at 9:00pm e/p through September 16.

Where have you heard that we have procured all 18 episodes of Monkey Dust? Was that just a rhetorical question for the terms of speaking about the flaws of the feedback forums? I believe we only were able to purchase rights to air 6 episodes. I doubt the channel purchased rights for episodes it never intended to air.

I hope I've addressed all of your concerns. Thank you for your interest in Sundance Channel, and for your concerns about our website.

          Hi

I know you've had many viewers write in about when you will show Monkey Dust again. I have only caught the last 2 episodes this week. It's a fantastic and clever show. I haven't laughed this hard in awhile. I really hope you repeat Monkey Dust soon again as I think it will introduce more viewers to your channel which is how I've discovered the Sundance Channel. Now I also watch you other shows and film as well. Please, please please more Monkey Dust! I want it as desperately as a child cries for sweets in a candy shop! many thanks!

I would like to see a showcase, "Hey! Who's that Guy (or Gal)?" I am particularly fond of the character actor, Ciarán Hinds, for he is very underrated. I would like to see more of his works on this channel, if possible. BTW, Mickybo and Me was great.

You can improve the Sundance channel by not running the bowdlerized versions of films (R rated) when the original is available.

I just received your July schedule and noticed that Slings & Arrows is not listed. Please tell me that you are still planning on airing this fabulous Canadian series! If you will continue to air the show, will you be airing the new Series 3? Slings & Arrows is arguably the best show currently running anywhere on television and, since I don't live in Canada, Sundance Channel is my only hope of ever seeing it!
    • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 28 2006 at 8:31pm by jamesagazzi
Why are you consistently always behind in providing the monthly FILM DESCRIPTIONS in a printout format? They are NEVER PROVIDED until approximately the end of the first week of each month. You have the schedule ready and avilable by the last week of the preceeding month - but never the info necessary for making viewing selections. Having been around so long why are you so lame?
      • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jun 29 2006 at 8:48am by Administrator
Films Descriptions are generated, and usually posted along with the schedule sometime between the 15th and 25th of any particular month.

This month there is a display problem which we are aware of and are working to fix. We will post another reply when we are confident that the situation is resolved.

On a monthly basis though, our records show that the film descriptions have been working and have been posted along with the schedule, with due time before the end of the month, with the exception of perhaps one or two isolated indiscretions (such as this month) which we were aware of.

We continue to do the best that we can in providing you information as soon as we can make it available, and are sorry for any inconvenience the current problems concerning next months descriptions may have caused.

We thank you for your concern.

I'm really enjoying the Asia Extreme series, but have seen all of them at this point. Are you going to air new movies any time soon?
      • Re: Asia Exteme Junkie Posted on Jul 5 2006 at 10:35am by Administrator
At the moment we only have the ones we are showing, which are now in encore presentations. Usually destinations such as Midnight Snack or Asia Extreme are run in seasons, and are repeated after the season is finished for anyone who may have missed them or wanted a chance to see them a second time.

We are glad to know you enjoy the films though! And don’t worry, new films in this series will be shown as they become available to us. Unfortunately, we cannot be more definitive at this time, but stay tuned!

We are glad to know you enjoy the films though! And don’t worry, new films in this series will be shown as they become available to us. Unfortunately, we cannot be more definitive at this time, but stay tuned!

I recently saw the end of Play it as it Lays and would like to know how to locate the next showing of this film without having to scroll through your schedule day by day until I find it again.
      • Re: How can we improve? Let us know! Posted on Jul 5 2006 at 10:16am by Administrator
To locate the next showing of any film, as well as any other information about it, simply find the film-page for that film.

There are many ways to find a film's film-page.

        1) If you have just watched the film, the easiest way is usually to look at the schedule to see what was playing during the time you were watching. When you find the right time, click the film's title. That will bring you to the film's film-page.

        2) If you do not know when it last screened, but you think you know the title, type the title in to our site's search box and click the title of the film when it appears in the search results. That will bring you to the film's film-page.

        3) If you do not know when it screened or what the title was, try searching for keywords such as "AIDS" for a documentary the was about the AIDS Virus, or "Fishing" if the movie was about some guys who went fishing. You'll get a listing of films and a mini description. Click through and hopefully you'll find the one you were looking for.

        Hope this helps.

I don't know if this the right site. BTW, I need to know why do you always have the same films showing on the Asian Extreme? I already watched these movies that you are going to show for these following dates:July 2,9,16,23,30 at 12:00 midnight(is this suppose to be dated July 3,10,17,24,31 since its already Monday morning?) Can you not have new Korean, Japanese or Chinese movies that you can show??? Just wondering?!!! I think, if you want to improve Sundance Channel, you have to make sure you don't repeat the same films in just about two months period. I mean, you can show these film again, why not, but not on the schedule slot and you can have it shown in different days as like some other channel. If you have Asian Extreme every Sunday midnight, ok to have at least new films/movies, then you can have it shown on Thursday or Fridays, which ever is your available.

      HELLO,

I SAW A SHORT ON FRIDAY JUNE 30, 2006. THE SHORT WAS AIRED BETWEEN THE FILMS HANNA K., AND PLAY IT AS IT LAYS. THE TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 4:35 P.M., AND 4:45. THE SHORT WAS LIKE A MUSIC VIDEO. THE IMAGES WERE OF A SQUID THAT EVENTUALLY HAS THE FACE OF A MAN, AND A WEIRD PHALLUS LIKE THING. THE VIDEO WAS AMAZING, BUT YOU DO NOT SHOW ANY LISTING OF THE NAME OF THE VIDEO OR IT'S DIRECTOR ON YOU SHOW SCHEDULE. I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A LISTING OF ALL THE SHORTS AS WELL AS FILMS ON YOUR WEB SITE. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE NAME OF THE SHORT, AND THE NAME OF THE DIRECTOR.

      THANK YOU,

      WATER FIRE

The short was THE EEL. It is part of our "In Short: Nightmares" series.

We have had this question before (both specifically for that film, and also as a general "I saw a film about BLANK. What was it?").

To find the title of any film, simply type into the site's search box any number of keywords pertaining to the film. In this case SQUID would have gotten you all the information you we have available for that film.

I am wondering why I can no longer get the film descriptions for July. Each time I open the site it shows August but when I go back to July it still indicates that there are no descriptions.

          Thank you,

Printable Film Descriptions for July are up.

To view them go to Schedule, then select "PRINT THE FILM DESCRIPTIONS FOR July, 2006".

We have not yet put in any information for August, anywhere on the site, at all. I have no idea how that could be happening. The Schedule page defaults to whatever the current date is. If anyone reading this has experienced the same or similar problems, please post.

I have found several films that I have recorded using my cable dvr box have been cut short of the ending. The most recent I have seen was The Lady in Question is Charles Busch. The time was listed and I recorded for that length of time and the end time was not correct and I have now missed the end of the film. I didn't have the opportunity to watch it until today. There is no listing that the film will be shown again any time soon.. It's very frustrating to record something only to find out the end is missing. If this were the first time I wouldn't find it such a problem, but it happens on many occasions. I have even set the recorder to record an extra five minutes and still not have the end of a film. Why would the correct running time not be listed on the schedule. I would say that on occasion might be a problem with a start time and so the end would be off, but the film started at the time stated on your schedule. How is a subscriber supposed to be able to record something and then have the end missing.. Not right folks..

      Sincerely

      Ric M.

I recently viewed a terrific short film on Sundance Channel entitled, "Stronger" (directed, produced, and co-written by Debra Felstead). Now, I'd like to find out whether it is scheduled to air at some time in the future, and if so, on what day and at what time. (Perhaps your website has this functionality, and I am just ignorant as to how to use it.) But, if you don't have this functionality, could you develop it? It seems that this would be not too difficult to do. And, as you air full length features, short films, and other pieces according to a schedule, this would enable someone who enjoys and appreciates a particular film to watch it again (or refer it to others). Thanks.

I have a suggestion to improve ... re-air "Follow my Voice"!! My family and I only had a chance to catch part of it and we're mesmerized by the story and the music. I've also told at least a dozen people to watch for it if it comes on again. Do you have any plans to re-air? Thanks.

I wish you'd make a podcast of all the clips and trailers on your site. Just string together, like - two or three of them every day. "Premiering this week on Sundance" and/or "Independent Films now Showing in Theaters" and/or "Sundance Original Series".

This would be a much more pleasant (and more time efficient) way for me to view the clips than clicking on each one on the schedule page.

      I have three comments/suggestions:

      1. Please get some new films for the Asia Extreme series. It is a great idea, but we've seen the same films over & over.

      2. Let's have less series and more films! Please!!

      3. I would love to see more foreign films. Very few get theatrical releases in the USA, so cable can be the only practical way to see world cinema.

      Thank You!

Please...I love documentaries but of all the documentaries that Sundance shows about 85% seem to have something to do with Israel and/or Palestine. Enough!! Give other filmmakers a chance to teach us about other things in life.

the problems and to bring alot of attention to it,maybe more people will help over there.

      1.any chance of running directo's andre nichol's

LORD OF WAR with nicholas cage, ethan hawke and others?

      2.

      You folks do nice work; t’is appreciated;

How about thinking of a day of human rights films or protest films or documentaries put out by varied and sundry groups around the country—much in the vein of what you do now with bush’s brain and the like:

      For example:

INFACT has three films—one oldie on general electric and two new ones

      TEACHING TOLERANCE has several

WWW,NWFILM.ORG has several including shake hands with devil, private,

There is also the COURT TV presentation about GHOSTS OF ATTICA very difficult to find –court tv ran it only once

A day spent viewing these and others would be wonderful

      3. I've been waiting for months for a re-run of AN INJURY TO ONE; when do you think it will re-run and how WOULD I set up a "REMINDER?" since it does not appear to be listed on the search any longer?

      thanks

      thanks

I believe that a simple improvement to Sundance's

schedule listing would entail more attention being paid to the standard two line blurbs in the daily schedule.

They often contain much less less information than possible or only contain information about what festival the film appeared in before being truncated. The underperforming two line blurbs forces one to review the complete synopsis of every film rather than getting a quick and accurate sense of the listed film

    • I need some info please. Posted on Sep 19 2006 at 12:36am by chefdonno
Yes, could you please give me the contact info for your programming department. I am an independent television producer. I would like to submit my shows for your consideration.

This concept would be great for The Sundance Channel.
