BROKEN NOSES
Bruce Weber was already a noted fashion and advertising photographer - perhaps best known for the Calvin Klein ads of the '80s - when he made this, his first documentary film. Weber follows former Golden Gloves champion Andy Minsker as he mentors teens at a boxing club in Portland, Oregon, and reveals troublesome aspects of his youth. However, Minsker's experienced face becomes the primary focus of Weber's camera, which he celebrates with evocative music by Chet Baker, Julie London and Gerry Mulligan. "Deeply engaging" - Time Out.
