Erik Beck is the whiz kid special effects artist behind "IndyMogul.com" [www.indymogul.com]. His ability to create Hollywood style special effects on shoe string budgets has garnered him the title of "young Macgyver for the Youtube generation." Erik's passion is inspiring people with limited budgets to unlock their creativity and create movie magic.IndyMogul.com has 3 weekly video podcasts and is truly the Internet's one-stop-shop for young aspiring filmmakers. The show which started it all, is called Backyard FX where every Monday Erik shows you how to build a different special effects project for $50 or less. Proving that the quality of your film isn't determined by your budget. Our two other weekly video podcasts, Q and Erik and Weekend Extra which go out every Thursday and Friday, focus on the general aspects of DIY filmmaking and tips - combined these three web series have made "Indy Mogul" a powerful resource for young talent.
During the Sundance Film Festival, Erik will have a daily video blog that will capture what it's like to attend the festival as an aspiring filmmaker and cover the event from a more personal perspective. He's not really buying into all the hype of celebrity and money that is a big part of the industry. Instead he wants to show a side of Sundance which continues to be an inspiration and dream for young filmmakers everywhere. If you want to track Erik Beck's journey, make sure to check back for these daily videos. And if you want to tell Erik what to do while at the event and get more involved, text him at INDY 30644 - We'll try and respond to requests of which films to see and which directors to interview.
