A solar-powered motorcycle, a geothermal motherlode in West Virginia, and Abraham Lincoln meets clean energy… your green tech finds for the week.
- The solar-powered Suzuki: Purdue University physics major Tony Danger Coiro has received a provisional patent for the ’78 Suzuki motorcycle he converted into a solar-powered vehicle. Check it out in the video above… (via Cleantechies)
- More Google renewable investments: The Internet giant has announced a $5 billion investment in a mid-Atlantic offshore wind “grid.”
- Plug-in Prius not a money-saver… yet: Consumer Reports test drives the Toyota Prius plug-in (due out next year), and finds that, with current gas prices, a driver will save very little in terms of energy spending.
- Solar umbrellas for LA?: That’s a concept envisioned by designers Constantin Boincean, Ralph Bertram and Aleksandra Danielak. Project UMBRELLA, the winner of the Los Angeles Cleantech Corridor and Green District Competition, isn’t an energy-generation project, however: it’s designed to treat sewage water for release back into the surrounding environment. - Abraham Lincoln meets green tech: The Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois, has received funding for the installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system.
- New Jersey considers mandatory solar for schools: A1084, currently under consideration by the Assembly Appropriations Committee, would mandate solar energy systems on all new schools in the state. (via Calfinder’s Residential Solar blog)
- West Virginia a geothermal hotspot?: Looks like it… a Google-funded study found 78% more geothermal potential in the coal-dependent state than previously thought. (via Cleantechnica)
