Murat Germen in Istanbul

I was in Istanbul last week and on a rather unusual rainy day I ventured to Istanbul Modern. I did not know what to expect from the museum, but was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon the work of Murat Germen. The exhibit, called Way, is a series of photographs of cities, people, and they way they travel, going on their way. Not using digital effects, he uses old-school technique to create unbelievable images. They’re panoramic, bright, and bursting with movement.

Germen writes โ€I think of photography as an opportunity to bring to the fore the ordinary things that people, consciously or unconsciously, ignore or donโ€™t see, and give them the chance to change their prejudices. I try to bring out the extraordinariness that may be latent in the normal.โ€

I’m glad I found my way to his work.
