Poop-powered lighting, a shipping container office building, and the trade-in possibilities for a Chevy Volt battery… your green tech finds for the week.
- The affordable EV: Lots of green tech news coming out of this week’s meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, including GreenTech Automotive‘s announcement that it will sell the first 100,ooo of its MyCar neighborhood electric vehicles at a discounted price of $10,000. (via TMCnet)
- Dog-powered lamps: Specifically, dog poop powered… part artistic statement, part green tech, the Park Spark Project gives Cambridge, MA, dog walkers the opportunity to power a outdoor lamp with their dog’s “leftovers”…. (via Green Upgrader)
- Solar-powered cell towers: T-Mobile has installed its first solar-powered cell tower in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
- Wal-Mart installing thin film: The retail giant’s already put solar on stores out West; now, it plans to try out thin film solar material at 20-30 sites in California and Arizona.
- The shipping container office building: NPR reports on what may be “the first permanent, multistory office building in the United States made entirely from shipping containers.” Watch its construction above. (via Greenbiz.com)
- EPEAT producing big savings: You may not have heard of the EPEAT standards for computer equipment, but the program’s new environmental benefits report shows major savings in electricity, greenhouse gas emissions, and air pollution. (via Environmental Leader)
- What do you do with a Volt battery? The Chevy Volt’s rolling out soon, and GM is looking into the “trade-in” potential of the expensive battery packs that aren’t useful for the cars, but may still have a lot of life left in them.
- Solar trees planted in Cambodia: The Nothing Design Group‘s tree-like solar lamps installed in Angkor Wat, Cambodia, are not only cool, but provide an additional safety measure for tourists visiting this UNESCO World Heritage site.
