What is Sundance Channel?
Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel is the television destination for independent-minded viewers seeking something different. Bold, uncompromising and irreverent, Sundance Channel offers audiences a diverse and engaging selection of films, documentaries, and original programs, all unedited and commercial free. Launched in 1996, Sundance Channel is a venture of NBC Universal, Showtime Networks Inc and Robert Redford. Sundance Channel operates independently of the non-profit Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival, but shares the overall Sundance mission of encouraging artistic freedom of expression. Sundance Channel's website address is http://www.sundancechannel.com.
On the Sundance Channel, do you only show films that were at Sundance Film Festival?
No. Although we do show many films that also appeared at the festival, being part of the festival is in no way a requirement for being selected to appear on the Sundance Channel.
How do I get Sundance Channel?
Sundance Channel is available via satellite television and cable television. To find out if your provider offers Sundance Channel, call: (800) SUN-FILM (800) 786-3456. If your preferred provider does offer Sundance Channel, you'll be transferred directly to your local cable or satellite representative who will take your order. If your preferred provider doesn't offer Sundance Channel, we'd appreciate you telling your customer service representative you want it right away.
What's all this VISION and VOICE stuff?
We've added some new features to our usual stable of programming information, and much of this stuff is exclusive to our web site. We've organized all of our features - new and old - by separating them into broad VISION and VOICE categories. Some of these features may be familiar to you - the schedule, our film pages, our video player - although they've all got a shiny new sheen to them. Some, like our blogs, spotlights and exclusives, may seem new and unfamiliar. The key thing is that anything on the VISION side of the site is visually-oriented - usually relating to a film or series in some way. Anything on the VOICE side is an opinion or editorial, whether it comes from us, from a guest, or even from you.
How come what I have in my schedule is not what is actually on when it says it should be?
Due to the tangled nature of cable and satellite technology, it is sometimes difficult to know where your feed is coming from. You could live on the East Coast, but receive a West Coast feed. Our online schedule provides the most likely match for your time zone (for example, it assumes that those on the east coast receive the east feed). But if your schedule isn't matching up, try checking your local television guide.
How can I find out what's playing on Sundance Channel?
Sundance Channel's program line-up can be found in several places: a) your local TV newspaper listings or supplements b) some regional editions of TV Guide, (c) on your television through the "interactive program guide" and finally (d) online, via sundancechannel.com. An interactive, searchable schedule is available. It is updated with the next month's information approximately the 20th of the month prior. You can sign up to receive the monthly schedule by email.
I saw fifteen minutes of this movie last month with this blond woman talking to this big tree that never answered any of her questions. What movie was that and when are you showing it again?
Excellent question. To find the film, you can search the Schedule if you have a vague notion of when it ran. You can search by keyword, or if you know the title, by title, or if you know the filmmaker or any of the cast, try searching by their name. If none of these help, you can try posting your question in our discussion boards. Let the power of the people do your searching for you.
I saw that movie ANNA AND THE BIG TREE. Loved it! Now I want to send a copy to all of my relatives next Christmas. Can I buy a copy from you?
Short answer: maybe not from us, but there's a good possibility one of our retail partners will have it for sale or download. Sundance Channel Home Entertainment titles are available at most online and brick and mortar DVD retailers. We also have a presence on iTunes where a growing number of films, docs, and original series episodes are available for download. Unfortunately, some titles are simply not available on DVD - just because we can show it on television doesn't mean the publisher wants you to buy it. Go figure.
I. M. Kamera, the director of ANNA AND THE BIG TREE, is my favorite filmmaker and I would like to invite him to speak to my Arbor Day Community Group. Do you have his phone number?
Sorry, but we can not supply the phone numbers or addresses of filmmakers. It is best to write directly to the distribution company or check if there is an official site for the film. If you can't find that information elsewhere, you can e-mail your correspondence to feedback@sundancechannel.com, and we will forward it, if possible. Just don't hold your breath waiting for a reply - filmmakers are busy people!
How do I submit my film to Sundance Channel?
Please email a short description of your film to submissions@sundancechannel.com. If we're interested in your project, we'll be in touch. Regrettably, we cannot accept unsolicited tapes.
How do I find out about the next Sundance Film Festival?
Watch our festival site at sundancechannel.com/festival/ or check the Sundance Institute web site at http://www.sundance.org. Generally, the Sundance Film Festival is held in January.
